SMQG members, non-members and participants in the 2012 NC Quilt Symposium are invited to enter quilts and wearable items made using standard quilt making techniques (three layers joined by quilting) in the Smoky Mountain Quilter’s Guild 2012 Quilt show, “Stars Over the Smokies.” First, second, third, and honorable mention ribbons will be awarded in all categories. Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded for Best of Show, Best Hand quilting, Best machine quilting, and Best computer-generated machine quilting.
All entries must have been completed on or after January 1, 2009, and must not have been previously entered in a SMQG show.
The NCQS 2012 Quilt Show committee reserves the right to accept or reject any submitted entry, to divide or combine categories, to move entries to more appropriate categories, and to not award all ribbons.
Each entry must be solely the work of the entrant, with the exception of duet or group items, and must have been constructed by the person/persons named on the entry form. Duet quilts: Two people are involved in the creation of the quilt, including any quilting done by a person other than the maker of the top (including quilting done for hire.) Group quilts are made by three or more quilters (such as a Round Robin) and the name of the group, or all quilters involved, must be submitted.
You may enter no more than two items in any appropriate category.
Submit your entry form, non-returnable picture, and $5.00 registration fee for each separate item to the registrar (MaryAnn Budahl) by April 15, 2012. Any entry received after this date will positively not be accepted. Full-time Symposium participants will have the entry fee waived.
All entries other than miniatures must have a 4-inch sleeve attached to the top of the quilt.
All entries must have a label sewn to the lower back right corner of the item which should include the quilt name, maker’s name, address, and date completed. Cover this label with a pinned-on blank piece of cloth to remain in place while the quilt is being judged.
Quilts offered for sale will be handled through the SMQG Quilter’s Boutique, and a consignment fee of 15% will be assessed by the Guild.
Unless otherwise notified, the item being registered has been accepted into the show, pending hands-on inspection at quilt delivery. If you must withdraw the item, notify the quilt registrar one week prior to the delivery date. All entries must hang for the duration of the show.
The registration committee reserves the right to refuse a quilt if it is soiled, or if it smells of smoke, perfume, or pet odors. Quilts will be inspected upon receipt, and the owner will be contacted if the quilt is refused.
While we endeavor to take the utmost care of your quilts, the NCQS 2012 committee will not be held responsible for any damage that may occur. Quilts entered with embellishments must be capable of withstanding normal folding and stacking without risking harm to your quilt or to other quilts.
We will provide NQA “Standard Insurance Coverage”: $500 – for quilts 70” and greater on the shortest side. $250 – for clothing and quilts less than 70” and greater than 24” on the shortest side. $100 – for quilts 24” or less on the shortest side. If you desire more coverage, please be certain to include your quilt on your homeowner’s policy, or secure additional insurance through your agent.
Awards: The following ribbons and cash awards may be awarded at the judges’ discretion: Best of Show, Best Hand Quilting, Best Machine Quilting, Artistic Merit, Judges’ Choice, NCQSI Board Choice, Guild Choice, Best Use of Color, Most Innovative, and Best Use of Embellishment. Ribbons and cash awards may be awarded to first place winners in all categories, ribbons and baskets filled with merchandise may be awarded to second place winners in all categories and ribbons may be awarded to third place and Honorable Mention winners in all categories.
