SMOKY MOUNTAIN QUILT GUILD

6 inch Charm Square Swap

Purpose:  To have FUN!!

By the end of the 6 month (April – September) Charm Square Swap (CSS) you will have a variety of squares in a quantity sufficient to make a quilt of your choice.  What an excellent way to use your stash so that you can buy some of the beautiful fabrics new this Spring.

Plan:

  1. Sign up to participate in either the AM or PM Guild meeting.  If you know that you will be unable to attend the meeting that you have signed up for then make arrangements to have someone bring your squares and pick up your baggie.
  2. Use only quality fabrics, pre-wash and remove the selvages before cutting.  Use precise measurements.
  3. Bring your cut fabric squares in a gallon size baggie with your name on it to the Guild meeting (am or pm) that you have agreed to participate in.
  4. Place your cut square in the designated stacks on each baggie of the other participants.
  5. At the end of the meeting take home your filled baggie (this is why your name must be on the baggie).
  6. Admire the vast assortment of beautiful squares and begin to plan how you will incorporate them into a quilt.
  7. Challenge- Make a top and bring it to the December SMQG meeting.  We will have a prize for the “Group Choice”.  Everyone who participated in the CSS will get a vote whether they finished or not.
  8. If you do not typically use the color choices chosen then consider donating your squares, top or quilt to one of our charities- Baby Quilts, QOV or Storybook Quilts.  Get out of your box and have some fun!!!
  9. If after  the end of this we decide we want this to be on going then please let Linda Harrison know.  The next 6 month group may want to choose another theme.
